Hypnosis
A good definition of hypnosis is: a state of relaxation and concentration at one with a state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion. The state of hypnosis is totally natural. The fears, myths and mystery surrounding the use of hypnosis are totally undeserved. No swinging watches or magical powers, just a reassuring manner to put you at your ease and the expertise to help you with your problem. There is absolutely no question of you being controlled or manipulated whilst in the state of hypnosis.
What is hypnosis? It is a state of deep relaxation. It is an altered state of mind, induced either by a hypnotist or the person themselves (self hypnosis).
This state of mind, to the onlooker, resembles sleep; which is, in fact, how it got its name—from the Greek hypnos meaning to sleep. Far from being asleep, the person experiencing hypnosis may feel in a state of heightened awareness. They still have overall control of their own mind, whilst being open to the suggestions given by the hypnotist.
It is not possible that you could be made to do anything you do not want to do. During hypnosis, you feel extremely relaxed and are able to converse easily. Hypnosis is increasingly being used as an addition to orthodox medicine, where it is proving, for doctors and dentists, a valuable alternative to anaesthetics, to accelerate the healing process, to relieve stress and to help control pain. |
